Hawthorne Farm at 235-237 East Pleasant Street Amherst, MA is a two unit condominium: each unit has 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.  Homes are priced up to $135,000 with the final price and mortgage term set to ensure the selected family’s housing costs do not exceed 28% of their total income.  Monthly payments may range from $650-$1,000 which include mortgage principal, taxes and homeowner association fees.  Monthly payments will vary depending on the length of the mortgage, final sale price of the home and property taxes charged by the town.

Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity (PVH) serves Hampshire and Franklin Counties; they seek to eliminate homelessness and substandard housing by making decent affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action for all people. PVH builds homes with volunteer labor and donations of material, supplies, land, and services. PVH then sells each home with a no-interest mortgage to a low-income family. The family becomes an active Habitat partner contributing many hours of sweat equity during the construction of their home. Applications are available starting on Thursday November 26th, 2015 and are due by February 1st, 2016 for the Hawthorne Farm Duplex. Applications can be picked up at an information session, the Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity Office, the Jones Library, Amherst Town Hall or downloaded from https://pvhabitat.org/home-ownership/schedules-and-locations. Families interested in submitting an application are invited to attend one of the following information sessions: Bangs Community Center 70 Boltwood Walk Amherst, MA 01002 Tues January 12th 6pm Amherst Jones Library 43 Amity St Amherst, MA Sun January 24th 3pm During the information session, potential applicants will learn about Habitat’s selection criteria and how to prepare a complete application. The selection criteria include housing need, ability to make modest mortgage payments, and willingness to partner with Habitat, such as participating in the construction of the home and other Habitat projects.
